Letter Loom: why a letter is cooling, and when to Undo

Learn Letter Loom’s cooling rule with COLD, CORD and CARD. Finish First thread in two edits and use Undo to recover a move without spending another edit.

CORD with its third letter R marked COOLING. CARD, WORD and CORE are the three offered next words.
After COLD becomes CORD, the third position rests for one turn. CARD changes the second position, so it remains available.

A blue COOLING tile in Letter Loom means you can’t change that letter position on your next turn. Choose a word that edits a different position. Waiting won’t clear it: the restriction lasts for one move, not a number of seconds.

If you want to take back the last move, choose Undo. That’s different from spending an edit to build a route back to your previous word.

Follow COLD through CORD to CARD

The first challenge, First thread, starts at COLD. You need to visit the checkpoint CORD, then reach CARD. Click or tap an offered word to make an edit. You can also reach the word buttons with Tab and choose one with Enter.

  1. Choose CORD. The third letter changes from L to R. That position turns blue and displays COOLING. The checkpoint receives a tick, and the counter drops from six edits left to five.
  2. Choose CARD. This changes the second letter, O to A, while leaving the cooling R alone. You reach the final word in two edits, matching par.

The offered buttons already apply the rules. At CORD, you’ll see CARD, WORD and CORE. Each changes one letter in a different position from the last edit. COLD isn’t offered because returning directly to it would change the third position again.

The First thread result reports 2 edits, par 2 and A perfect thread, with Next challenge, Play again and Look at board buttons.
COLD → CORD → CARD finishes at par. Completing it without a hint earns the game's “A perfect thread” message.

Use Undo when you meant to go back

Try choosing CORD and then Undo. You’re back at COLD, the checkpoint tick is removed, no tile is cooling and all six edits are available again. Undo restores the earlier position; it doesn’t add a return move to your trail. You can choose CORD again and finish with CARD.

This matters when a word looks close to your destination but leaves an awkward next edit. Check the cooling position and the offered words before committing. If the choice takes you somewhere you didn’t intend, Undo lets you reconsider it.

Keep the checkpoint in your plan

Later routes still require the middle checkpoint. Reaching the final word without visiting it won’t finish the challenge. Follow the VIA label as well as TO, and watch which position your next edit will leave cooling.

Find a thread suggests a next word and tells you how many edits remain along that route. After moving or undoing, ask again if you need a fresh hint. Using one keeps the result from receiving the perfect-thread message, even if you finish at par.

For the next route, choose Next challenge. Before selecting a word, identify the one letter it changes and check that it leaves a useful position available for the following turn.
