Seed Merge: what Undo restores and why Best stays
Undo in Seed Merge restores your board and current score, but not your Best. Follow a real 36-to-40-point move and learn when to spend a takeback.

Undo restores the previous board and current score in Seed Merge, but your Best score stays. If you see Score fall while Best remains higher, the takeback has worked. The two counters record different things.
You get three undos per game. Use them to recover a move you want to change, rather than spending one just to make those counters agree.
Read the whole slide
An arrow key moves every tile in that direction. Matching tiles combine into the next value, and a successful slide adds a new tile. Look along each row or column before moving, not just at the pair you hope to join.
In the screenshot above, column three contains a 2 in row three and another 2 in row four. Sliding up joins them into a 4. The 8 in column two also moves to the top, while the 4, 8 and 2 in column one slide up without merging with each other.
This was an ordinary in-progress 4×4 game, not a fixed opening puzzle. Your starting tiles may differ. Use the example to read the move, not as a sequence that guarantees the same board in a new game.
Follow the score from 36 to 40
The upward slide produces the board below. The pair of 2 tiles becomes a 4 at the top of column three, adding four points. Score and Best both rise from 36 to 40. A new 2 appears at row three, column four.
Click Undo to take back that slide. The previous tile arrangement returns, including the two separate 2 tiles in column three. The new tile disappears with the move, and the current score returns to 36.
The close-up below shows the part that can look surprising: Score 36, Best 40, Undo 2. Best records the higher score already reached; it is not the score of the restored board.
Spend a takeback on a different plan
The move shown here is not a mistake by itself. It is a small example of what Undo changes. Before spending a takeback in your own game, identify what you would do differently: perhaps a slide separated matching tiles, or moved a large tile away from the edge where you wanted to keep it.
After undoing, inspect the restored board and choose that alternative. Repeatedly taking back ordinary moves uses the same three-move allowance you may want later. A higher Best counter does not give you more space on the board or extra undos.
Checked against Seed Merge v3 on 4 October 2026 using ordinary keyboard moves and the Undo button in Chrome. Screenshots show one uninterrupted game. Phone-width article checks are not a physical-phone gameplay test.
